I think maybe we need to distinguish between “being prepared” and “getting ready.” How much do you really need to do to prepare yourself to write, go on a sales call, give a presentation? I’ve found the less I prepare, the more productive I am, probably because my “getting ready” time eats into the time I’ve earmarked for the actual task.
