I think you missed the point of the term “cheerleader.” It is a metaphor for the type of approach to selling. In other words, just like a cheerleader at a sporting event gets the crowd cheering for their team, the “cheerleader” in this sense means selling to someone who already wants what you sell. The “persuader’ in this sense would be like a cheerleader trying to convince the crowd to root for the visiting team.
