Political Road Rage Is Tearing Us Apart
Today’s crises feel more ominous than yesteryear’s
The late comedian George Carlin once said, “Did you ever notice that everyone driving faster than you is a maniac and everyone driving slower is an idiot?”
What he meant was that we all see the world through our own unique lens. You’re the sane person driving at the proper speed while everyone else moves too fast or too slow. Meanwhile, that lunatic speeding past you thinks you’re the idiot, and that slowpoke in the right lane thinks you’re the maniac.
Carlin’s joke serves as a metaphor for modern society. We’re all in a constant state of road rage stemming from the politicization of… Everything.
Whether it’s wearing masks, policing, or climate change, we no longer assess issues with objective analysis. Instead, we consume pre-packaged opinions from media celebrities who decide what issues matter and through what lens we should view them, crafted in such a way to heighten our fear and anger.
Political road rage has become so pervasive, families and friends are parting ways to escape the toxicity.
