Three to five from the day before. I write down twelve each night plus three thoughts. I pick three to five that seem most interesting. Then I pick one and write about it.

For example, on Sunday I went to a haunted house. I wrote about the “scary surprises” in my journal. The next day I wrote about the difference between surprise and suspense and how to infuse your writing with a bit of suspense.
